 Cleansing and Preparation
« Thread Started on Dec 19, 2006, 4:17pm »

So, I've gotten myself a Sword, which I plan to use in ceremony, but first I've got to cleanse and prepare it. What follows is my usual method of cleansing and preparing.

First I cleanse with fire (well...smoke). Starting on the new moon (which this month is the 20/12) I light two or three sandalwood incense sticks (or cones) and let the smoke engulf the item, in this case the Sword. I allow the incense to burn out completely.

Next I take the item to a stream and immerse it in the water, taking care not to lose it! This is another cleansing step, and when I've held it in the water for as long as I can, It has been fully cleansed.

The way I visualise it is that the smoke 'loosens' any negativity attached to the item, and then the rushing water washes it off and takes it away.

Then I charge the item. I'll place the item on the windowsill from the new moon to the full. I don't take it out of the window during the day - I leave it so that the item will be energised by both Sun and Moon, part of the striving for balance that is all part of Druidry (as I see it).

Then, when the Full Moon comes round, the item is ready for use!

Best Wishes

MaC

Just thought I'd let you all know -- for no particular reason -- that during the recent Lunar Eclipse Xowie and I robed up, took our magical tools down into the little courtyard behind our flats, drew out a small circle and Blessed our Swords, Xowie's Athame and my Staff with incence, flame, water and salt under the copper moonlight!

It was a wonderful evening, we took photos of the amazing eclipsed full moon, and it was the first time Xowie and I had worked as a unit, acting as our own Priest and Priestess! It felt like a proper initiation, even if it's into a working group of two!

In Love and Light,

Allen 8-)

I definitely need a more natural way to cleanse my tools , I'm going to try leaving my athame on a window sill when there is a full moon . :)

I like to expose my tools to all the elements in some way, passing through fire, water, etc. Leaving out in sunlight is a great way. Anything really that is symbolic to myself.

Unfortunately I'm in student accomodation, so I have to really improvise since I'm not allowed candles or incense. To that end I leave my tools on the windowsill under an open window for a full night and day after having passed them through water and salt.

I personaly recommend sound as a really excellent way of loosening any sticky or negative energies in/on a ritual object. Bells are good, but useing your own voice works too. A chant of your own invention, or something appropriate. Clapping, drumming, as was mentioned before. In fact, I use these methods when house cleansing, or space clearing. Works like a charm lol!
