 Imbolc - 1st february(ish)

The Sun grows brighter and hangs that little higher in the Sky, and the Earth's frosts clear that bit earlier, giving life and energy to those first flowers of the woodlands. As you walk carefully along the muddy tracks you take joy from the first flashes and white and lilac carpeting the forest floor as the snowdrops and crocusses open up to the young yellow sun in the sky.

It marks for me the beginning of the courtship of the young Sun and his Maiden Love, the Earth. The promise of new growth, new life, new energy abounds with every passing day.

While many folk celebrate on the 1st February (or first weekend of February), Oop North it takes a wee while longer for it all to happen. So, go into the woods, look for the flowers of Brighid, and once you see them, know that Imbolc has arrived, in our case usually the 2nd week of February.

I loved Imbolc this year, my first year as a Pagan . It was very special :- With the growth of the first flowers of the year came the the growth of new friendships and the two events seemed to walk hand in hand with each other .
It was made even more specia on a personal level because our High Priestess trusted me enough to be the High Priest which was an honour and a great learning experience . If anyone is ever nervous during a rite /festival , if you are with true friends and you make a mistake , no one will mind , in fact they will quite happily discuss the mistakes they made when they were first learning the paths of the ancients, in the local inn once the rite has been closed. :)

It sounds like you had a nice time Iathspelle. You're really lucky to be with good friends on such a day.
I've always been happy to be solitary and do my own thing. I'm not a druid, I tend to follow my own path, I call myself wiccan now and then as it is the easiest way to explain to people but I feel I'm following something older and more personal.
I have found that the people here are so nice and like minded and I may pay a visit to a rite at some point, I would enjoy meeting everyone.

I think if you are confident in yourself and your own talents you don't need to explain to anybody who you are and what you do . I must admit though I am more for the ancient ways than the new so I call myself Pagan/Witch/Druid .
I love being involved in rites and being with my friends at those times , but I do solitary work as well . I'm also interested in the thin line between life and death so I'm especially looking forward to Samhain this year because it will mean more than it has done previously . The link with my ancestors is strong and it's rubbed of , my husband has started having experiences as well , it frightened him at first but once he was reassured now he's come to understanding . :)
